Why You Should Limit Alcohol Intake

No matter which part of the globe you visit, you will find one common denominator, and that is alcohol. Almost every culture consumes alcohol in one way or the other. There are many people who can control and limit the intake, which is actually food for the body. However, most people become alcoholics and consume more than needed. This can be cause for concern.

Too Much Alcohol Means Liver Damage

There is a reason why so many health experts inform people not to consume too much alcohol. Although alcohol is beneficial in moderate amounts, when consumed excessively, it can lead to irreparable liver damage. And as well all know, the liver is one of the most important orangs in the body that performs many useful functions, including filtering toxic substances. So, if your liver is damaged, there’s no system of filtering toxic substances.

One of the first signs of liver damage is the collection of fatty acids. These fatty acids develop in people who indulge themselves in 15 ml of alcohol per day. However, this is a symptom that can be reversed. However, people who drink over this limit can experience liver scarring, liver inflammation, or even Cirrhosis, which is an irreversible condition.

Negative Impact on The Brain

There are many reasons why people should watch out for their alcohol intake. One of the many reasons is that too much alcohol in your body can lead to adverse effects on the brain. Alcohol is ethanol, and this is a substance that reduces the communication ability between brain cells. So, basically, when you’re drunk, you tend to slur, be incoherent, and also reckless.

When a person drinks excessively or even binge drinks, they can experience what we know as blackouts which can lead to temporary or short-term memory loss. But these are temporary problems. Heavy drinks can, however, damage their brains forever. The brain is very sensitive and fragile. Too much alcohol and can lead to brain shrinkage or dementia as well, which can affect the quality of life.

Excessive Drinking and Depression Are Connected

Studies have found that too much drinking can lead to depression. Abusing alcohol can have adverse effects on a person’s psychology. This means that too much drinking can lead to mental problems such as depression, which is really hard to cure. Several studies show that excessive intake of alcohol is a common factor in many people who are depressed.

There is no doubt that drinking can help provide relief from depression, but this is temporary. In the long run, the opposite is true. This means, too much alcohol can easily worsen the signs and symptoms of depression. Moreover, people who quit alcohol tend to show positive changes in their moods.
