Is flu season getting the better of you?

The key to building immunity lies in one's diet. Eating properly balanced meals is important to get the right nutrients. At the same time, drinking an adequate amount of water is essential to keep the body fluids in check.

Our body tends to take a hit when we fall sick. So while rest and appropriate medications are essential, there are a few hacks to get well quicker. Certain foods work well for certain illnesses, and in normal conditions, they work as immunity boosters.

The more nutritious one's diet, the lesser chances to fall sick. Immunity-building foods are of utmost significance and can easily be incorporated into one's regular diet as well.

here are some remedies that can help you with that.

Honey

From Respiratory Tract Infections (RTI) to common cold, honey is soothing on a sore throat. A warm mixture of Tulsi extracts and black pepper along with a teaspoon of honey, works like magic. However, honey can work its charm without any additional supplements as well.

Ginger Tea

Tea has impressed and comforted people for generations. Ginger-infused tea is an effective way of dealing with a cough and sore throat. Antioxidants in ginger help reduce stress and boost immunity. Some people also claim the steam from ginger tea helps control nausea.

Banana

Bananas are rich in potassium and contain fast-acting carbs. A sick person needs more electrolytes compared to a healthy person. As such, instead of the rehydration salts available at drug stores, bananas help replenish electrolytes more organically.

Bananas are also rich in water-soluble fiber, which means they absorb excess water in the system, thus helping with diarrhea. Bananas also help during indigestion, and health workers advise including bananas in one's daily diet.

Vegetables

Green leafy vegetables are rich in plant-based iron and contain lots of vitamins. Though some people suggest tossing everything together for a smoothie, a small portion of greens in one's daily diet works better.

A healthy tossing of some spinach in the pan to go with one's regular breakfast omelet works great. Veggies like kale and lettuce also help reduce inflammation. All in one, for the win!

Soups

A warm bowl of soup is enough to comfort a sick person. Soups are where the nastiest vegetables come together with or without some protein to create magic. Some added spices will raise the taste by ten times!

The best soups have a balanced ratio of meat, protein and vegetables. The simplest of soups can be the most healing, and one doesn't need to search for too many ingredients.

Plain Toast

Lack of taste during a fever or nausea can make one not feel like eating anything for long periods. This further leads to gastrointestinal issues.

Plain toast is a good option in such situations. Bland foods are easier to ingest when the stomach doesn't hold much. If one is unable to make toast, crackers work as well!

Citrus fruits

Health Professionals always advise including fruits in one's daily diet. However, few fruits work better than others. Citrus fruits or fruits rich in vitamin C help boost the immune system in the best way.

Men need more vitamin C per day than women. Including oranges in one's everyday diet would perk up the immune system and help fight better against infections. Squeezing a few drops of lemon juice in vegetable salads works too!

Conclusion

Apart from healthy foods, adequate rest is essential for a sick person. The body needs rest to re-energize and regain its usual amount of energy.

Medicines like pain killers and paracetamol are handy during these periods. Inhaling menthol steam works wonders on a blocked nose. Clean bedsheets and towels should be used to make sure any infection does not spread to others. At the same time, drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

It is believed that wealth lies in health more than anything else. Even though taking care of one's health is difficult in today's age, it is essential to take one's well-being seriously.
